Who We Are

Scouting is known internationally as an organization of youth and volunteer adults from a multitude of ethnic origins, faiths and cultures, who work and play together in the spirit of making the world a better place to live.

Across Canada many ethnic groups who recognize the value of Scouting for youth and realize that it is an opportunity to pass on their own cultural and religious beliefs, form their own strong Scouting community under the sponsorship and charter of Scouts Canada.  Their organizers and leaders consider it a duty and a privilege to participate in the continuation of the Scouting program for their youngsters and work diligently to maintain a blend of their traditions married with the values of Scouting for Youth.

By the year 2000, Scouting for Jewish youth had all but vanished in Canada.  With only a scattering of adult Jews willing to volunteer as leaders the opportunity for Jewish youth to come together in friendship and fellowship, to enjoy the out-of-doors, to learn and themselves grow into caring, informed and contributing Jewish adults… disappeared.

Our History

In 2004 a small group of concerned Jewish adults, under the auspices of Tzivos Hashem Canada, some with long Scouting backgrounds and others with only a dream and a belief in the value of Scouting, came together to kick-start Scouting for Jewish Youth in and around Metro Toronto.  By May 2005 Tzivos Hashem Canada has formed the 18th Jewish Toronto Scout Group. The group was active with a small membership of Jewish youngsters, aged five through seven, meeting weekly at a local community centre in the Bathurst-Finch area of the city.  Over the next weeks they played and learned together blending the out-of-doors concept with some basic Jewish history and culture.

Jewish Scouts is now launching a new initiative for the school year of 2005-2006 to form new Jewish scout groups in local Jewish populated public schools. We hope that Jewish scouting will grow into a large, thriving organization that Jews everywhere will support and be proud to recognize as an important and continuing part of our culture and heritage.

It is with your support that this will happen.
